A transplant of my now dying blog on blogger, but nothing personal, just course related. |
My Modern France professor doesn’t like to rely on the internet very much. Paper is much more reliable.
However, there have been a few times when for the FLAC section she’s talked about needing to meet somewhere else because the discussion would benefit from images online or recordings online. But then of course, one of us pipes up: “We can bring our laptops.” And her response is: “But isn’t that an inconvenience?” And it’s not an inconvenience. Laptops aren’t that heavy if you compare their weight to some textbooks. In proportion to their weight textbooks provide less information than a laptop with an internet connection.
Anyway, that’s a sidenote, kind of. Anyway, each time she asks to make sure it’s not an inconvenience, I just think how much of my life is on my computer (and in turn the internet) and how sad that is. If my computer’s out of commission, so am I. Well, in a sense anyway.
My power cord broke a month or so ago. So, I’ve been using my computer for facebook, hulu…etc much less. I borrow my roommate’s cord, and since I don’t want to get on her nerves, I try to charge my computer as infrequently as possible. This means to conserve power, I have to use my computer primarily for school. Because it is an inconvenience to have to go down two flights of stairs, through the hallway to the computer lab…
Sometimes laptops just make life almost too convenient.
